About Me

Hi there. My name is Kristin Donovan and I’m a writer and web designer living in Seattle. I’m so glad you found me.
Some of my friends call me “Kat” because growing up, my favorite aunt called me “Krissy Kat.”
(Alright – she still calls me that.)
Please use the contact page to drop me a line. I’d love to hear from you!
The Technical Details
I’ve been writing since I could hold a pen. I guess that would be about 30 years now. I have an expensive piece of paper that says I can write, at least according to Boston University. They graciously awarded me a B.S. in Journalism. I also rocked the Multimedia Production and Design for the Web program at the University of Washington.
I’ve been building websites and blogging since 1999. I’m crazy about Web Standards and cascading style sheets. I hand-code HTML and CSS, but I’m also a Dreamweaver pro. I’m well-versed in Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and Movable Type. I design on both a Mac and a PC, and I’m anal retentive about cross-browser compatibility. I’m currently enrolled in Web Technology Solutions program at UW so I can wield my power over Javascript, PHP and MySQL.
During the early days of the World Wide Web, I worked as a content developer at Circle.com. I wrote articles for Symantec’s small business network security website, as well as creative content for Campbell’s, Royal Caribbean, IBM and other clients.
These days, my original content appears on a variety of sites around the web. I created and run several sites focused on my deepest passions: journaling, animals and scooters. I write articles and blog entries, design ecourses, record videos, take photographs and publish a weekly opt-in email newsletter with several thousand subscribers. I also have Podcasts available through iTunes.
The Personal Stuff
I’m a Pisces through and through. Because of our imaginative nature, Pisces are often called the “Dreaming Fish.” I’m a secret mermaid walking the earth, wrapped in seafoam, kelp, and moonlight.
I lived with my feet underwater in coastal Connecticut until I was eighteen, when I ventured to Boston to earn my aforementioned piece of paper. Ten years later I packed my orange dwarf bunny and my crates of notebooks into my car and drove out to Seattle. I came for the coffee and rock ‘n’ roll; I stayed for the mountains and rain.
In order to fulfill a lifelong obsession, I lived on a houseboat for a couple of years – the S.S. Octopus of Love. Two people, three cats, 198 square feet; there’s a book waiting to be written, I’m sure. Living aboard taught me to tread lightly on the earth, and I’ve maintained this simple lifestyle on land. I still kayak on Lake Union.
I share my home with a rescued lynx-point Siberian Forest Cat named Nevadelia Lotus Blossom and a 9-foot-long Colombian Redtail boa constrictor known as Samhain. Samhain is the Gaelic version of Halloween, my favorite day of the year.
I cruise around Seattle on a custom two-stroke scooter known as The Frankenstella. She’s the color of surf and seafoam and covered in chrome.
I’ve kept a daily journal since I was 13, and I now have over a hundred notebooks filled. Sometimes I read them on stage in a theater full of strangers.
I love polaroids, classic cars, libraries, vintage furniture and public radio. I briefly lived on the beach. I’m nuts about vegan cooking and color-coded tupperware. I like to venture out very early in the morning, while my city is still asleep. I run often, but slowly. I wrote a novel in 27 days. I can read Tarot cards and talk to animals. I’m just over six feet tall.
I’m sure there’s something I’ve forgotten. If you think of it, please drop me a line and I’ll be sure to fill you in on the details.
Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the internets. Please stay awhile. I’ll put on some tea.
